Cupboard Spider
Steatoda grossa is commonly known as the False Widow, but she is also sometimes called the Cupboard Spider. It was this latter name that first inspired the idea for this art doll.
The cupboard became her little home, filled with scraps of old fabric, old lace cobwebs, and a collection of tiny handmade shoes.
The old lace and tangled webs also brought to mind memories, the things we keep, hide away, and sometimes forget about. She now quietly lives among all these forgotten fragments, weaving her own world inside the cupboard.
This one-of-a-kind art doll is entirely handmade from clay, textiles, and beads. The cupboard is decorated with vintage fabric scraps and lace details, and has a fitting on the back so it can be hung on the wall.
A small, curious world for a Cupboard Spider to call home.
She will be available at the upcoming Bestiario Lucretile exhibition in Italy from October 24th.
