This delicate watercolor is a portrait in memory of the german poet Charlotte Stieglitz.

Charlotte gave her heart fully to Alfred Stieglitz, but his betrayals shattered her. In the painting, withered roses surround her, symbolizing her inner self. Consumed by the pain of a love that was both muse and wound, she took a knife to her heart, ending her life in front of him, in a final act of despair.
